Scents for the bathroom: 6 ways to use essential oils in the bathroom
A fresh scent in the bathroom is something everyone dreams of, and there are a number of products that help to create the desired scent.
Here you will learn 6 ways you can use essential oils to make the bathroom smell fresh and inviting.
Essential oils are a good alternative to fragrance products in baths. If you are familiar with essential oils, you know that they can be used for everything from setting the mood in the house to promoting sleep. You can use essential oils in any room in the house, and the bathroom is no exception. They can also be and effective, healthy substitute for cleaning chemicals.
Here are some ways to use essential oils in the bathroom.
1. Essential oils for your diffuser
The most obvious way to maintain an appealing scent in the bathroom is by using a diffuser. A diffuser can be especially beneficial if you have visitors and want the bathroom to smell extra fresh. The diffuser can give the bathroom a lovely scent that will be appreciated by your guests.
Add 8-10 drops of oil into your diffuser and add water. Test different combinations and doses. To give a light citrus aroma, try the following combination:
- 2 drops of Lemon Organic Essential Oil
- 2 drops of Bergamot Organic Essential Oil
- 2 drops of Grapefruit Organic Essential Oil
- 2 drops of Sweet Orange Organic Essential Oil
If you're looking for a more clean and natural scent you can use:
- 2 drops of Lemongrass Organic Essential Oil
- 2 drops of Peppermint Organic Essential Oil
- 2 drops of Lavender Organic Essential Oil
- 2 drops of Eucalyptus Organic Essential Oil
2. For the bathtub
Dr. Debra Rose Wilson loves to use essential oils in the bathtub. The oils provide a luxurious experience. It is entirely possible to make an oil blend on your own. What you need is to mix the selected essential oils with a carrier oil. Add the oil mixture just before getting into the bath. You can then massage the oil into the skin while relaxing in the bath. Or you can rub the oil mixture onto the skin before getting in the bath. This allows the oil to absorb into the skin, giving the maximum effect.
Some good suggestions for essential oils are eucalyptus and lavender. Lavender is a popular option much because of its pleasant effect on mood. Eucalyptus is considered a little stronger than the other oils but blends well with oils such as orange and geranium. The mixture will be refreshing and give a stimulating aroma.
3. Cleaning spray
Many cleaners contain chemicals. By replacing these with a homemade spray of essential oil, you’ll be able to clean the bathroom in a "greener" and less toxic way.
It is easy to make cleaning spray. You need 1 cup of water, 1 cup of vinegar and 10 drops of essential oil. Some good and fragrant essential oil options are lemon, tea tree, lime and orange. They are among the most effective for cleaning.
4. Air freshener for toilet paper
This is not something many people think about, but it is also possible to use essential oil on the toilet paper roll. Add a drop of your favorite oil to the inside of the roll. This way the scent will spread and give a pleasant smell in the bathroom. One recommendation is to create a citrus aroma using grapefruit or lime.

5. Toilet cleaner
Many toilet cleaners contain ingredients such as hydrochloric acid and chlorine. These are convenient for cleaning and disinfecting the toilet. Nevertheless, the scent can be experienced as strong and unnatural. Having a more natural cleaner is healthier, and a natural, fresh scent in the bathroom is desirable, to which essential oils will contribute. One method is to mix vinegar and baking soda with an essential oil, such as lemon.

6. Hand soap
Hand soaps can also be combined with essential oils, and it is easy to make a fresh soap mixture. To make soap, you can use castile soap mixed with water and add essential oil.
Experiment and choose your favourite oil blend so you get a soap blend you really like. Lavender essential oil creates a mild scent that gives a relaxing feeling and is a perfect addition to the soap mixture.
